The Village of Hope is Allied Muslim Youth Uganda’s flagship humanitarian development project designed to transform the lives of Sudanese refugees and vulnerable host communities in Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement, Uganda. The project is designed to become a self-sustaining community hub where families can rebuild their lives with dignity while creating opportunities for future generations. The Village of Hope will:
Provide sustainable access to clean and safe water
Create vocational and income-generating opportunities for young people
Improve food security and emergency response capacity
Promote better health and sanitation
Strengthen social cohesion between refugees and host communities
Improve resilience through sustainable community infrastructure
Reduce dependence on humanitarian aid by promoting self-reliance
The Village of Hope has been designed with long-term sustainability in mind. Community management committees will oversee the maintenance of key facilities, while vocational programmes and community ownership will ensure that services continue to benefit future generations. Renewable solar energy systems and durable infrastructure will further reduce operational costs and support environmental sustainability.
Why the Village of Hope?
Uganda hosts one of the largest refugee populations in Africa. Many families living in refugee settlements continue to face significant challenges including:

Mega Solar Water System
A solar-powered deep borehole with a large elevated storage tank and an extensive water distribution network supplying clean water through multiple community tap stands.
Modern Training Facility
A modern training facility providing skills in Tailoring & Fashion Design, Carpentry & Woodwork, Entrepreneurship & Business Skills. The centre equips young people with employable skills that enable them to generate sustainable incomes. .
Community Kitchen
A large community kitchen designed to prepare nutritious meals during emergencies and community feeding programmes. The facility also supports humanitarian food distribution and nutrition initiatives.
Food Storage Facility
A secure warehouse for storing humanitarian relief supplies including food, emergency materials, and community resources. Proper storage improves food quality, accountability, and emergency preparedness.
Community Centre
A multi-purpose hall used for Community meetings ,Youth programmes, Women's empowerment, Peacebuilding activities, Health education, Training workshops, Child-friendly activities, & Health Post Support.
Sanitation Facilities
Modern sanitation blocks with handwashing stations designed to improve hygiene, dignity, and public health.
Solar Power System
A dedicated solar energy system providing clean and reliable electricity for the entire Village of Hope, ensuring uninterrupted operation of training facilities, offices, lighting, and community services.
